A commissioned portrait of yourself or a loved one makes the most beautiful gift or item to be treasured for a lifetime. A favourite moment in time can be captured in paint forever, or a special photograph can come alive in watercolour.
I aim to make the commission process as uncomplicated as possible, working from your own photo and at a reasonable cost. All communication can be done remotely, so location is not an issue. Read more about the commission process below.
Commissions are created using a photograph supplied (digitally) by you. Portraits are painted in watercolour on flat Aquabord panel, which is a hardboard panel specially prepared for watercolour painting, or a wooden panel prepared with watercolour grounds. Watercolour paint is applied in layers to build colour and depth. The final painting is spray varnished with satin archival varnish or polished with archival protective wax. The finished panel can be hung or displayed unframed, or placed in a floater frame. Portraits may also be requested on paper, which will require framing for protection and display. I will provide recommendations to you on displaying your artwork depending on the size and surface you request. Artworks will be shipped to you unframed, unless specified in our commission agreement.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, you permit me to share progress pictures and the finished commission on my social media sites and website.
The following is a synopsis of what you can expect from the commission process.
Contact me to discuss size, cost, timescale, photo reference and any ideas you have about the painting.
You book a commission slot by paying 50% of the portrait cost. You then provide suitable, good quality/resolution photograph(s).
I will select the best photo and plan the composition of the piece (I can send you picture of this).
Once I feel the portrait is at a stage I'm happy with, I w[ill send you a progress photograph. At this stage you can suggest any amendments or tweaks that you feel might improve the likeness. Any significant amendments after this stage may incur a further charge.
The balance of the cost is paid prior to shipping. Signed for Australia Post shipping is included in the price on domestic orders. For international clients, an additional shipping and handling charge will apply. Artwork is safely packaged to avoid shipping damage.
